Can someone point me to any for the "nob" documentation (video or otherwise).

I really need to see the most basic step by step process.

Everything that needs to be done to add fields to categories or articles

and

then how to get them to display on the front end.

I am afraid I don't understand

how the templates work

Can I only use seblod templates or is there a way to add the content to my existing template.

I know. I am a total nob.

But I am thinking seblod will be brilliant, if I can just break through the learning curve.

 Thanks in advance.

Hi ckka,

Welcome to the SEBLOD forums. The best place to start, is to go over the documentation in the Manuals section.  It would also be helpful for you to be familiar with the SEBLOD storage methodology in this tutorial and videos.  You can also check out James' YouTube channel.

I agree that templates can get a bit confusing.  There are basiclly 2 different types of templates.

  1. Joomla Site Template
  2. SEBLOD template

They are very different and not to be confused.  The main thing to know, is that the SEBLOD Content Types AND SEBLOD templates "live" inside a Joomla article and the SEBLOD templates are really positions/layouts within the article - places in which you can position your fields.  There are different templates that can be applied to each View to help you present you fields.

There are 4 different views and options for each view.

  • Admin Form
  • Site Form
  • Intro
  • Content

In each view you can add your own Fields.  The Admin Form is for the back end.  The other 3 views are on the Front Side.  Site Form is the form that you allow a user to add information, like a Contact Us Form, a New User Profile form,  Book form, Author form, or what ever kind of form you can think of!!  The intro is if you want to use the Read More option.  The Content view is the main display of all of the data that was entered through either the Admin Form or the Site Form.

that's the 10^10 foot view...

Hope that helps,

Randy

Thanks Randy! Appreciate the info. But frankly, not sure I am going to be able to wrap my head around this. I'm a designer, not a developer. This is a bit out of my league.

Hi ckka,

One of the great things about SEBLOD is, you can build your Apps/Forms without knowing a single line of code!  Once you have them built, you can reuse them on other sites.  A good example is a Contact Us form.  Once you have it built, you can export it in a zip file and the install it on a new site through the extension manager.

regards,

Randy

Hi ckka,

it will take time. I'm not a developer myself, more a template designer. But when i saw what i could do i was eager to get grips of it. And can do things i woudn't dream i could realise before.

It even got me interested into learning more about programming and php. But thats for later...

I would suggest you create a test-domain and just try to do the things you see in de videos and tutorials. Break it, learn why and try again.

Good luck,

Joris
