Topic

Being Internet Marketer as well as programmer myself, i would like to dedicate a thread regarding SEBLOD and SEO. I manage all my client site in Seblod (+ wordpress - sorry for an affair).. and i got 100% to achieve top 10 in google for local listing.

Acutally, talking about SEO is a different kind of topic because it sometime it consist of topics like Link Building (spammy method , ethical method), Content Writing, On Page SEO, Off Page Seo and much more.. but too keep this discussion related with seblod, i would like to share and learn with all you guys related with SEBLOD and SEO..

*) Desclaimer: a commercial extension/plugin might be discussed but i'm not endorsed or employed by any of joomla commercial extension, i tested several commercial extension and this is based on my personal experience, feel free to argue, you might have better experience

Most Question Asked:

What SEO Extension should i use ?

RSSEO from rsJoomla. Here's 3 main reason why :

- It doesn't include 'router' to beutify your URL.
Compare with the 'Big Names' of SEO Extension, this might be a cons, but the fact is.. SEBLOD has its own 'router'.. if there's 3rd SEF router plugin that override core SEF, that also use by SEBLOD... this is one of recipe to disaster. Of course you can 'exclude' for specific component which is com_cck.. but hey, my site is a SEBLOD based site

- It does have simple SEO tools build in
you can do keyword density measurement, manage canonical in meta, maintain page title, meta keyword, meta description, keyword manipulation

- It does have sitemap generator to feed search engine

Canonical Plugin from Octopoos

Look at the product page, buy it...  canonical plugin is quite important when you use a lot of 'List-Details'.. it reduce the duplicate content on your site by refer the a single content as original content

Do i have to use SEF/SEO Extension ?

No, you don't have to.. extra extension require extra resource, too many extension will make your site bit 'heavy'.. use core SEF plugin is good enough. Having a beautiful / human readable URL is just one ranking factor among hundreds of ranking factor listed by google. But eventhough, having the canonical plugin is highly recommendable (did i say its very affordable)

So what do you think ? any other thought ?

Hello Victor,

thank you for sharing your experience here.

I have to optimize SEF URls for a project I'm working on and I am pretty lost because the extensions I've tried don't work well together with SEBLOD router.

I have tried sh404SEF and MijoSEF. But both of them, as you say in your post, overwrite SEBLOD router and I get 404 pages with the links generated by that component.

You say the RSSEO works with the SEBLOD router. Can I customize SEBLOD URLs with that extension?

E.g. I have a URL generated by SEBLOD that points to a PDF download:
http://exampledomain.com/component/cck/?task=download&file=general_file&id=49

I want it to look like:
http://exampledomain.com/download/name_of_file.pdf

Would something like this be possible with RSSEO?

Hi... no its not possible since rsseo does notcome with its own routing... instead its dealing with seo element inside a page

Regarding your requirement, i would suggest to build manual script for redirection. Its less than 30 min solution rather than compromise thw whole apps with 3rd party seo component

Thank you for clarification.

What type of script do you mean? Redirections in .htaccess or PHP solution?

Hi

I started a thread at http://www.seblod.com/community/forums/general-discussions/sef-menu-items-for-see-function since we have troubles with joomla 2.5 & seblod 3 SEE (+) function with SEF activated.

If only Octopoos had released the cannonical url plugin for Joomla 2.5 !! but it only works with Joomla 3.

thanks

Hello Viktor,

just in case you still read this thread, I still would like to know what type of script you were talking about for redirection.

I have a list module that lists articles and links to them and get URLs like:
.../adressverzeichnis.html?id=201:max-huber

I want the URL to look like:
.../adressverzeichnis/max-huber.html

Maybe you could point me in the right direction?

Thanks

Hi Gerhard,
i'm thinking about using core joomla redirection plugin
you just need the address and then create redirection..

see here for tutorial:

Hello Viktor,

unfortunately I still have not been able to resolve this redirection problem.

On my site, the core Joomla redirect component has no effect on Seblod generated URLs. I guess it has to do with Seblod's own router. Joomla core redirect component seems to depend on Joomla router.

At the moment I have to add redirect rules to .htaccess manually. I'd really like to find an extension that lets me add those redirection rules through a GUI.

Any ideas?

@ gebeer
Have you tried with Akeeba Admin Tools - URL Redirection feature ?

@ Viktor
But the core joomla redirection plugin is only for expired URL, isn't it ?

Please, Has anyone had the same problem with SEF URL Rewriting & Seblod Registration User Form ?

Hi gebeer,

I'm using it to redirect

from: .../register (not created as you can read in this my topic)

to: .../index.php?option=com_cck&view=form&layout=edit&type=user&Itemid=0

and it's working.

Please, contact me via email: joomla AT egulp DOT net
